How To Play Tennis, Self-Analysis

Tuesday, March 9, 2010

I think that in order to improve your tennis game, you must be able to accept criticism not only from your peers, but from yourself, as well.  Tennis professionals games are analyzed every time they step out on the court.  There are even some tennis players who keep notes while they are playing their match.  During a changeover, they will check their personal notes to see if they are executing their shots in a positive manner.

Recreational tennis players should try to learn how to analyze their tennis game after they play their match.  You will learn how to play tennis more efficiently if you are able to learn from your mistakes.  You should start your mental analysis at least one hour after you play.  Self-analysis should include your outlook before you started playing and consider how that might have affected your play.

You should devise a self-rating system for yourself.  If you are able to analyze your own matches, you will be that much further along to success on how to play tennis.

Tennis Training Shoulder Exercises

There is a number of exercises you can use in your tennis training to keep your upper body in shape for tennis.  The shoulder joint is vital to the success of a tennis player.  The reason why the shoulder joint is so important is that you use it on every stroke.  You need to exercise your shoulder muscles before you go out and try to hit a 100 mph serve.  “The powerful overhand thrust and rapid deceleration of a serve can overload the shoulders which, unlike other joints, has only a few ligaments and a thin capsule to keep it stabilized according to Todd S. Ellenbecker, clinincal director at Physiotherapy Associates Scottsdale Sports Clinic, in Scottsdale, Ariz., and chairman of the USTA Sport Science Committee…”

To avoid serious injuries to your shoulder you should be cautious.  If you feel a twinge in your shoulder, stop playing.  Do not compound the problem by playing through any recurring pain.  To make sure that you are using the right technique in rotating your shoulder have a teaching pro evaluate you.  The teaching pro can help you correct the motion.

You will be able to accomplish a great deal in tennis if you take care of your shoulders.  Before you play, warm up and stretch regularly.  In order to build up the muscles around the shoulder joint do some strength training.

How To Improve Your Tennis Game

This article was taken from a recent article in WikiHow.  I think it is an important article for people who are discouraged about their progress in learning how to play tennis

Practice, although just playing is not enough; you have to play with the right people, play often, and play under the right learning atmosphere.  Just getting together with your regular partner 1-3 times a week is not enough and may even hurt your game; it will definitely stop you from improving.  You will make the same mistakes over and over and the game will continue to be a major challenge.

The bottom line is that in order to improve your tennis game, you have to put the time in by playing as often as you can and by playing as many people as you can.
