Monday, February 8, 2010
posted by Rdgventure 11:56 AM

On this day in 1993, Arthur Ashe passed away from complications from the Aids virus which he contracted from a faulty blood transfusion.  Arthur Ashe has inspired countless numbers of tennis players of all races and nationalities because of his indomitable spirit.  For tennis players who did not have the pleasure of watching Arthur Ashe play, you may purchase a tennis video,  “Wimbledon 1975 Final: Ashe vs. Connors.”

Product Description

The 1975 Championship reached a spectacular climax to the Gentlemen’s Singles Final between the world’s then number one player, Jimmy Connors and Arthur Ashe.

Connors, a self-taught player from Belleville, Illinois had burst on the tennis scene only a couple of years earlier and was taking the tennis world by storm.  In fact, he had enjoyed the most successful years of tennis that any player had experienced.

During the championships he looked invincible having waltzed through to the Final without losing a single set.

However there was a final twist in store, as Ashe overcame all the odds to beat the younger champion in four thrilling sets to win the most coveted title of all.
