Tennis Instruction at the NTC
The summer outdoor season is drawing to a close in some areas of the country. I hate to see the summer go because playing outdoors can be challenging because of the elements. The U.S. Open is starting this Monday, August 31, 2009 and the main draws have been set in place. Dinara Safina and Roger Federer are the top seeds in the tournament. It is always a great tournament to watch.
The world’s greatest professional tennis players will be showcasing their talents at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. However, even though the recreational players will not be able to use the facility during the tournament, they will have plenty of time to take tennis instruction at the facility. Just imagine being me to play and take instructions on the very same court thay your idols played on.

When you’re talking tennis racquets, size really does matter. The standard designations of racquet head size include oversize, mid-plus and midsize. Beginners are best served by opting for an oversize racquet, which features more square inches of string surface and a notably bigger “sweet spot.” These racquets offer more power for those with a slow swing speed.
Once you get some playing time under your belt, you’ll be ready to proceed to one of several sticks in the midsize range of Wilson tennis racquets. A smaller racquet head equates to more precision. Whether you’re hitting fierce groundstrokes from the baseline or venturing in to net, a midsize racquet will help you to guide your shots with increased precision.

Tennis Video on Killer Forehand
Nick Bolletieri is one of the most famous and successful coach in tennis. He has a long list of number one players in the world, as well as a multitude of other world class players. If you would like to learn how to play tennis, he is one authority that you can rely on. He has a wealth of drills that will help you develop not only your forehand, but your backhand and the other proponents of your strokes.
Mr. Bolletieri stresses that in order to be sucessful, you have to be fit. One thing that he stresses is movement; if you can not move, you can not win. I, personally, enjoy his lessons on the Tennis Channel. His tennis video, Killer Forehand is a step-by step explanation of the key components to develop a killer forehand.
Kid’s Racquets
Rod Laver has been featured this month on the Tennis Channel. Rod Laver was the greatest player of his era. He was the World No. 1 player for seven consecutive years from 1964 to 1970, and he is the only tennis player to have won all four Grand Slam singles titles in the same year. Rod Laver would have won more Grand Slams, but he was not allowed to play in the major tournaments because at the time the professional tennis players could not compete against the amateur tennis players in the Grand Slam events.
When Rod first started playing tennis, he had to use a hand-me-down racquet with a sawed-down handle to fit him. Today, young players, can purchase a kid’s racquet designed just for them.
